Monday, November 1, 2010

The world famous Oktoberfest (we Bavarians nicknamed it “Wiesn”) is… well… over… already! This year it took place from September 18 until October 4 and it was a very special one - it was a big birthday year!

A year of big change! That’s all I’m going to write this time around. Enjoy the video!

Take Back the Night 2010 in New York City

Friday, June 18, 2010

For the second time in my life I participated in the global movement entitled Take Back the Night (TBTN). It aims to end sexual violence especially against women, but our group at The New School (and many others) opens it up to simply fight gender based violence.

To give you a better understanding of TBTN I first would like to share a quote with you from the official website of the movement: http://www.takebackthenight.org/

“Why Take Back the Night?

Antanas Mockus and the Colombian Elections

Thursday, May 27, 2010

Three days left to the presidential elections in Colombia. The outcome is supposedly quite critical for the country’s future and I am searching the German mainstream media for any updates.

The Vagina Monologues

Friday, April 2, 2010

For the past four years I have been involved in the VDay Movement (www.vday.org) to end the violence against women around the globe. I have performed in The Vagina Monologues several times and directed Any One Of Us: Words From Prison. I was also very fortunate to spend a whole afternoon with Eve Ensler, the playwright and founder of the movement, who is one of the strongest, most inspiring and world-changing people I know of! It was incredible!

Continent Unknown

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

I’m sitting on the Bolt Bus from New York City to Washington DC and I am realizing that there could be no better week to post this film I worked on called “Continent Unknown.” It was written, directed and edited by a colleague of mine – Meng Xie and tells the story of… Ah no, this is a vlog, right. So you should just watch it yourself before you continue reading! P.S. I was the Director of Photography, or “DP” as they call it in the filmmaking circles, meaning I was in charge of camera and lighting.

Porto BR: A Percussion Group that Changes Lives

Sunday, November 8, 2009

In the summer of 2007 I went to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil participating in a course on Human Rights and Media. Over the course of 4 weeks we met with countless NGOs, as well as community leaders in different favelas across the city. Most of them worked with young people teaching them how to use the arts, especially video and photography to empower them by telling their stories to the world, and to get them off the streets.

The Tie

Thursday, October 29, 2009

The film that I am posting this week was my first 16mm film that I wrote and produced. Entitled “The Tie,” it carries a lot of meaning and different messages addressing the subject of teenage bullying.

The Oxford English Dictionary states:

The Women of the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Friday, October 23, 2009

For the past ten months I have dedicated countless hours of my time researching the conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) that has been shaking up the country (especially its women) for over a decade now. I was first drawn to this subject through this year’s campaign of VDay, an organization that works to end the violence against women around the globe. It was founded by Eve Ensler, who wrote the “Vagina Monogogues” and I participated in this year’s events by directing another one of Mrs. Ensler’s plays entitled “Any One Of Us: Words from Prison” that talks about the violence female prisoners have to encounter.
