ThinkSwiss NY 2012: Soloists from L'Orchestre International de Geneve

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

New York: Prefaced with the fact that I am by no means a musician nor a trained reviewer of music, the "Soloists from L'Orchestre International Geneve" event in the ThinkSwiss NY Festival on Saturday night at the Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Center was a night of magical flights of fancy and daring surrealist imagery through romance-imbued chamber music dedicated to the life and works of Jean Jacques Rousseau.

Thursday, October 20, 2011

On October 18, Reverend Billy Talen and the Church of Earthalujah (formerly the Church of Stop Shopping) paid yet another visit to Occupy Wall Street in New York City. In the video below, they entertain the crowd with a very catchy tune. The lyrics of their song, "We are the 99%," are adapted from the preamble of the Declaration of Occupy Wall Street.

Arab Freedom Anthem

Monday, January 31, 2011

I received these videos and MP3 from Stephan Said, founder and and president of difrent. With the recent uprisings in Egypt, Tunisia, and Yemen (and by the way, I say keep your eyes on Jordan and Algeria), Said wishes to share "أحبعيشةالحرية," pronounced "Aheb Eisht Al Hurriyeh," (I Love the Life of Freedom).

A Song Unsilenced

Thursday, December 16, 2010

Last month I had the pleasure of attending Session 3 of The Impossible Music Sessions (TIMS), an organization dedicated to featuring the voices and music of musicians oppressed by their governments. On this goose-bump inducing evening, TIMS featured jailed Cameroonian singer Lapiro de Mbanga.

Turkish Facebook Song

Wednesday, September 29, 2010

The Facebook worldwide takeover continues, and this time it takes form through the invasion of the Turkish music scene. Though these are hilarious, its sad that these desperate attempts at pop glory usually don't end up well for any artist, no matter where you're from.

Kanye's "Wicked" Beat Making Skills

Thursday, June 24, 2010

No matter what you may think of the man. He's got talent.

I.E. this video of him taking a sample from the musical Wicked and flipping it to what will surely be a head nodding cut off his new LP "Good Ass Job."

First it was about the "Power" and now its about being "Popular."

Check the original record and Mr. West's version below.

Playing Super Mario Via Violin

Thursday, June 24, 2010

This is an elegant and classy way to play the soundtrack to a gaming classic. I didn't grow up in a 3-D gaming world like these spoiled newbie youngans, all I had was this game and a zest for Princess Toadstool. If you ever felt the same, this vid will bring a smile to your face for sure.

Major props to Japanese violinist Teppei Okada for the eloquent rendition and salutes to NY Mag for the find.
