Great question at the end there, JK, about how Americans can simultaneously hold in their mind “corporate personhood” and an idea of life that begins at conception. In the latter case, the being at least has a chance at gaining a heartbeat and eventually what we typically refer to as “a life,” but in the former instance, a corporation can never gain a heartbeat … can never become fully human. And yet, both ideas of “people” are staunchly defended by American conservatives. Brilliant question. I’d like to see it addressed by Republicans.
